Nature is so beautiful, it’s no wonder we love to surround ourselves with plants and greenery. Blog articles, social media posts and stock photos always seem to show off a clean well-lit workspace with a few stylish potted plants and a cup of fresh coffee or tea. If you want to freshen up your home or office, one of the easiest ways is to add some potted plants to your space. Here are some ideas to help you decide what to get! Depending on the overall theme of your space, you can easily decide on a style of plant and planter to add to your decor. Pinterest is a great place to search for ideas but you can find inspiration anywhere. I love to look at some of my favorite shopping sites like Wayfair, At Home or Etsy for design ideas. Another thing to do before deciding on a plant for your space is to research the best type of plant for the type of lighting you have. Some house plants do better in a well lit room vs. a darker room and some plants also prefer certain temperatures which is definitely something to keep in mind. Also, if you have pets be sure to check if the plants you are considering are safe. There are so many great places to shop around for plants like local nurseries, Home Depot, Lowe’s and even online. Some plants are more seasonal and can be harder to find but the more you shop around the more likely you are to come across something that will be a perfect fit. If you can’t seem to find a pot style that speaks to you or that fits with your decor, another option you could consider is to DIY a planter! I had this problem when I found a beautiful succulent plant I wanted to bring home while out at a flea market with my family. I bought it because I loved the color and it was such a good price but I did not have any planters at home and I couldn’t find anything I liked at the flea market. I couldn’t leave without a plan for my new plant and it hit me when we walked by a booth selling an assortment of random old metal buckets. I picked out the size I wanted and for $2.00 I had the perfect planter! All I had to do was paint it a nice gold color and pick up a bag of succulent approved soil and I had the perfect planter I had envisioned. If you don’t have time for taking care of plants, travel often, or don't have a green thumb - how about some artificial plants? There is no shame in adding artificial plants to your decor, in fact they can be perfect for some rooms where the lighting is not fit for live plants. I did this for my downstairs guest bathroom that is dark most of the day. Depending on the type of plants you are looking for, you can find very realistic options to add to your decor. Etsy can be a wonderful source for nice quality orchids, succulents, cacti and palms.
